Memorial Day, 2009

The Remlers, Taylors and Lawsons joined forces at the farm for a Memorial Day celebration. First on the agenda (after lunch, of course), was a blackberry picking excursion, followed by some fun on the water. Cocktail hour took place aboard the pontoon boat, where we toured the pond with the help of a knowledgeable tour guide. After a dinner of barbecued chicken, Davis and Harley entertained us with some attempts to scale the log rafters. Davis succeeded with the two-log method, but scaling one log proved more difficult, even for Harley, who had help from Hugh. Despite his unsuccessful attempt, Asher was impressed with Harley's prowess and deemed him "awesome."

Pretzel Time

Lawson recently had a fun family life project to do at school: prepare a dish with his mother and then bring it to school to serve the whole class. Immediately we got to work. The first order of business was to write a five-paragraph essay on the following thesis: Parents should not have to do homework because they've already passed fourth grade. Next, we planned the cooking segment: What's the easiest thing we can make with the littlest amount of effort? It didn't take long for us to think of chocolate covered pretzels--easy enough, just melt some chocolate and dip the pretzels in them. That dish was so easy Lawson could do it by himself, so that's what he did. All his mom had to do was show up at 2:00 on Friday for the presentation, which consisted of passing out said pretzels. Nancy's still not sure why her presence was necessary, but it was nice to see all the kids gobble up Lawson's snacks. He was the most popular kid in fourth grade that day!

Davis's Many Awards

Last week Davis received two awards at the BC sports banquet: Achievement in Track and the Most Valuable Team Member on the color guard. This morning, Davis made us proud again at BC's Senior Review, receiving the Superior Cadet award, one of only two awards presented to freshmen that day. Go, Davis!

Veggie Time

Time to plant the vegetables! Looks like the cold snaps are over, so the Remlers purchased their seedlings for their summer veggies. With five grow boxes and a couple of extra pots, we're sure to have a cornucopia of vitamin-rich vegetables this summer. Even Clorox participated in the planting process. While the grow boxes look promising, we can't say the same for one of our aloe plants. It's seen better days, but the other one looks like it's about to bloom. Who knew?

Everyone participated in the bocce tournament. Even though Lawson and Laurie won, Bob and MacKenzie put up a good fight against Kelsey and Megan. There was some question about the scoring, but fortunately, Kerry was on hand with a tape measure.

Easter, 2009

What a beautiful day Easter turned out to be--the perfect day for an egg hunt, grilled burgers, bocce, an egg toss and puppies. Hats were optional.

Lawson Turns Ten!

It seems like blur, but Lawson Remler has been alive a whole decade! We celebrated with a brownie strawberry torte and lots of extended family. It was definitely a Good Friday.
